It is uniquely designed to target the mitochondria, specifically by binding to cardiolipin, a phospholipid found exclusively in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Unlike traditional antioxidants that scavenge free radicals after they are formed, SS-31 research focuses on its ability to prevent the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by optimizing the electron transport chain (ETC).
