PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Peptide Name: MT-2 (Melanotan II)

Chemical Name: Acetyl-L-norleucyl-L-alpha-aspartyl-L-histidyl-D-phenylalanyl-L-arginyl-L-tryptophyl-L-lysinamide (2->7)-lactam

CAS Number: 121062-08-6

DESCRIPTION

MT-2 is a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). It acts as a non-selective agonist of melanocortin receptors (MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5). By mimicking the body's natural hormones, it triggers physiological responses related to pigmentation and metabolic regulation. Historically developed at the University of Arizona, researchers sought a more stable and potent alternative to natural MSH to potentially protect against UV-induced skin damage by inducing a protective tan without the need for high-level sun exposure.

  • Melanogenesis: Research indicates it stimulates the MC1 receptor to increase melanin production in the skin.

  • Sexual Health: Clinical trials have explored its role in treating erectile dysfunction and female sexual arousal disorder through MC4 receptor activation.

  • Metabolic Regulation: Studies in animal models suggest it may act on the central nervous system to suppress appetite and reduce body mass.

  • Social Behavior: Recent pilot studies in mice have investigated its potential impact on improving sociability deficits.
