HIGHLIGHTS

SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a groundbreaking, mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide. It is uniquely engineered to penetrate cell membranes and selectively bind to cardiolipin within the inner mitochondrial membrane. In research settings, it is studied for its ability to stabilize mitochondrial structure, boost ATP (energy) production, and significantly reduce oxidative stress. This Biolabs Peptides protocol provides a framework for investigating its protective effects on metabolically demanding tissues like the heart, brain, and skeletal muscle.

Observed Benefits

  • Mitochondrial Stabilization: Binds to cardiolipin to maintain the structural integrity of the inner mitochondrial membrane.

  • Enhanced ATP Synthesis: Improves the efficiency of the electron transport chain, leading to increased cellular energy production.

  • ROS Reduction: Effectively lowers the production of damaging reactive oxygen species (oxidative stress).

  • Neuroprotective Potential: Studied for its ability to support cognitive function and shield neurons from age-related decline.

  • Muscle Performance: Observed to improve muscle strength and exercise capacity in specific research models of mitochondrial myopathy.

Protocol Overview

For research purposes, SS-31 is administered via subcutaneous injection. A 10mg vial is typically reconstituted with 1.0 mL of Bacteriostatic Water, creating a concentration of 10 mg per mL. This allows for straightforward measurement where 10 units on a standard syringe equals 1 mg. Research cycles usually range from 8 to 12 weeks to evaluate improvements in cellular bioenergetics.

Research Protocol Dosing

Standard Research Phase (Weeks 1–2): 5 mg (50 units on a U-100 syringe) — Inject once daily to assess subject tolerance.

Maintenance Research Phase (Weeks 3–8): 10 mg (100 units/1.0 mL on a U-100 syringe) — Inject once daily.

Advanced Research Protocol (Weeks 5–12): 15 mg to 20 mg per day — High-dosage research typically requires splitting the dose into two separate injections (e.g., 7.5 mg - 10 mg twice daily) to manage injection volume.

Supplies Needed

  • Biolabs Peptides SS-31: 10mg Lyophilized Vial.

  • Reconstitution Liquid: 1.0 mL of Bacteriostatic Water per vial.

  • Syringes: U-100 Insulin Syringes (1.0 mL capacity is required for standard 10mg doses).

  • Prep: Alcohol swabs for vial and injection site sterilization.

Storage

  • Pre-reconstitution (Lyophilized Powder): Store in the freezer at -20°C (-4°F) for long-term stability. Protect from light and moisture.

  • Post-reconstitution (Liquid Solution): Must be refrigerated at 2–8°C (36–46°F) immediately after mixing. For research consistency, use the solution within 4 weeks. Do not refreeze the solution once it has been reconstituted.
